In collaboration with National Geographic Learning and UNESCO IESALC, this co-designed course empowers higher education professionals to acknowledge the important role of Greening Higher Education to support a sustainable world based on innovations in sustainability initiatives by championing impactful sustainability practices, all in alignment with the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This initiative aligns with National Geographic Learning’s mission of inspiring learners to be future leaders and caretakers of our planet, and the transformative power of education through materials that encourage a positive global mindset.
Designed for educators, university leaders, and institutional stakeholders, the course emphasises the critical role that higher education plays in advancing sustainability, not only by educating future generations but also by integrating climate action into all levels of academic and operational practices.
Participants will gain essential insights into SDG 13 and discover how higher education can drive sustainable practices that not only educate but inspire. Through engaging discussions, case studies, and action-oriented strategies, participants will explore the global landscape of climate action, examining current efforts by governments, international organizations, and civil society, while identifying key gaps and opportunities for progress.

An experienced teacher trainer and educational writer, Daniel Barber is dedicated to teacher development in sustainability. He co-founded an award-winning online community supporting climate change education, and authored National Geographic Learning’s TIRF report ‘Climate Change Education’.

I have over 30 years in the field of global education, as a practitioner, teacher trainer, curriculum developer, educational publisher and author of a wide range of educational materials for all ages. I believe that it is the role of education to teach about the interconnectedness of global communities, promoting empathy and a shared responsibility for our planet, inspiring future leaders and changemakers to make informed choices for the environment.

My passion is LEARNING. With a background in management, psychology, and education, I have developed a strong foundation in education, mental health, international relations, and youth & students engagement. My professional experience spans management, event planning, and partnerships. I’ve also worked extensively in teaching, training, mentoring, consulting, and research, designing initiatives to equip youth and students with the skills needed to address today’s challenges. My expertise extends to AI, Green Education, Sustainability, Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), and youth and student engagement, as well as mental health in education and supportive learning environments.In my career, I have been involved in consultation processes, South-South cooperation, advocacy, and dissemination efforts, especially in multilateral and intergovernmental collaborations. I’ve worked with Lebanese and international NGOs, CSOs, and intergovernmental organizations, gaining deep knowledge of global educational policies, mental health frameworks, and sustainable development goals. Additionally, I have participated in various courses, conferences, and workshops on sustainability, human rights, youth and student engagement, innovation, well-being, climate change, gender equality, higher education, and more. These experiences have shaped my passion for fostering positive change across sectors and communities.

Miranda is a learning experience designer, learning consultant, and teacher trainer with 18 years of global experience across Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the MENA region. She brings a strategic and creative approach to designing impactful learning experiences, drawing on her expertise in instructional design and her background in Fine Art.
Miranda believes learning is most effective when learners are actively involved in the learning process, and can apply the skills and knowledge they've learned to their own lives. She designs learning experiences that are not only visually appealing, but also inclusive and intuitive.

I am committed to closing the gap of social inequality by promoting local projects to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and help countries improve the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
I have led high-impact innovative education and cooperation projects in different Ibero-American, European and African countries, based on digital and blended solutions with a clear focus on job placement and STEM skills development among young people, as well as promoting teacher training; all aimed at generating sustainable and scalable impacts.
I am part of the founding team of the European Parliament for the creation of an academic accreditation model based on micro-credentials and Education for Sustainable Development, establishing the framework for collaboration with Iberoamerica, to strengthen a model that allows universities to support the development of professionals demanded by the labor market and thus student mobility in the region.
My main lines of research and work are the identification and implementation of innovative learning methodologies such as socialLearning, MOOCs and gamification to improve the effectiveness of learning solutions.

Ms. Bosen Lily Liu has been leading consensus-making among multi-stakeholders to promote emerging education agendas and priorities of the United Nations such as transforming higher education, greening higher education, and peace and higher education, establishing innovative partnerships to support improvement efforts on access and quality of higher education, especially leading South-South Cooperation on strategic higher education planning and financing. Prior to this role, she was a donor, a policymaker, an innovator, and a scholar with hands-on experiences in more than 40 countries on themes including but not limited to Education, Climate Action, Innovation, Youth Empowerment, Rights for Equity Deserving Groups, Standardization and Regulations, and Partnerships.
